Purple Hearts - Frustration
Perhaps the most iconic of the Purple Hearts singles, Frustration was released in November 1979 backed by Extraordinary Sensations . Simon Stebbing's jangly guitar intro has echoes of later classic indie acts like the Go-Betweens ' or Orange Juice , and is held together by the solid bass & drums of Jeff & Gary. The pop art sleeve was designed by Brett Ewins (more famous for his work with Marvel Comics) is a Lichtenstein-esque face framing the songs lyrics over the Lambretta style band logo. The 'b' side also gave birth to cult mod fanzine 'Extraordinary Sensations' devised and edited by DJ/Acid Jazz boss Eddie Piller. The single sneaked into the lower reaches of the charts, with good reviews but limited airplay, soon disappeared. Modelled here by quintessential frontman Robert 'Bob' Manton . The front of the t-shirt sports said pop art sleeve design...one of my all time personal favourites. As from the PH2 gig in Larbert in April 2022 we are adding a 'Just Tommy' special version in black....the rest were added in 2026.
