Purple Hearts - Frustration
Perhaps the most iconic of the Purple Hearts singles, Frustration was released in November 1979 backed by Extraordinary Sensations . Simon Stebbing's jangly guitar intro has echoes of later classic indie acts like the Go-Betweens ' or Orange Juice , and is held together by the solid bass & drums of Jeff & Gary. The pop art sleeve was designed by Brett Ewins (more famous for his work with Marvel Comics) is a Lichtenstein-esque face framing the songs lyrics over the Lambretta style band logo. The 'b' side also gave birth to cult mod fanzine 'Extraordinary Sensations' devised and edited by DJ/Acid Jazz boss Eddie Piller. The single sneaked into the lower reaches of the charts, with good reviews but limited airplay, soon disappeared. The front of the t-shirt sports said pop art sleeve design...one of my all time personal favourites. As from the PH2 gig in Larbert in April 2022 we are adding a 'Just Tommy' special version in black. Modelled here by quintessential frontman Robert 'Bob' Manton .
